Potluck-fundraiser at Board members John and Bernice's home, July 2019
In July 2019, we held our second annual potluck-fundraiser at the home of Board members John and Bernice. More than 30 people attended, including City Councilor Pat Davis and Representative Sheryl Williams Stapleton. After people had the opportunity to fill their plates with food and get to know one another, Pat Davis presented Parkland Village with one of the first $500 mini-grants from the Albuquerque City Council. The purpose of this new program of the City Council is to provide seed money to non-profit organizations that aim to improve City neighborhoods.
Parkland Village President Rich Weiner then gave a brief presentation about the Village, and he and other Board members fielded questions from attendees. Following the presentation was a poetry and music program. John recited a brief, but exciting poem (from memory). Rich and two friends played trio music for two recorders and viola da gamba. Board member Kim Seidler accompanied himself on the mandolin in a humorous song he wrote, and Fundraising Committee member Eva Ceskava accompanied herself on the guitar in an equally humorous song she wrote.
